The modern hypocracy of the Icelandic psyche. With every year that passes it becomes more clear that the mentality of the Icelandic populace is becoming more and more "
Americanized" and laden with hypocracy and stupidity. It appears that we feel the need of adopting the oh-so great
"do things now, ask questions later" mindset. It's as if we're becoming so consumed of ourselves that it's borderlining the common sense one would like us to have. Analyzing the events of, say, the last two years or so, not only is the decisions of our government getting further away from what our people actually want, but also the people themselves are growing more self-centered and stupid with each passing day.
Let's get some grounds for those statements I've thrown at you. There's a car crash that causes our police to close down a road here in Iceland. Nothing "special" about that, but what happens? People who are delayed by this tragic accident actually phone our emergency-line (112) to complain angrily about the delay
they were having and doing the same to the police officers working at the crash site, appearantly not concidering the delay of the people who actually
were in the accident, oh no, it's themselves they're worried about. It's so frustrating not being able to get to work or back home, right?
People amaze me, that's for sure. Now with recent events we can talk about the great case of Breidavik, once a youth correction facility, that appearantly has some dark past, but is now run as a guesthouse in a perfect place in nature. Now when the media is covering the whole issue somehow our stupid people feel the need of calling the guesthouse, which is totally irrellevant to the correction facility except the location, and showing great disrespect and even yelling at the owners by phone. What is it that justifies that kind of stupidity? Where are we going? What is going on? Did people really think that this facility was still being used as a corrupted correction facility, and the same owners were there since 40 years earlier?
Now that I've shown you how our populace is growing stupid in the past years, let's review the case of the
sex-terrorists that were planning to come here.
Now as many of you know, the Snowgathering, the name of the convention, was to be held here in Iceland at the Radison SAS Hotel SAGA. Everything was dandy and fine when the decision was made, they were booked at the hotel and little or no questions asked as it should be. However, it quickly became appearant what the convention was standing for, the sex industry. From then on all hell broke loose in the media. The institution that helps victims of rape - sexual abuse and domestic violence, Stigamot, sent a letter to all those
they considered important enough to see into their case. Soon after that everything went haywire, the mayor of Reykjavik stepped in and underlined his non existant insightfulness, the parliament took this case on their hands and tried to get to a decision, which they never succeed in anyhow, and failed. Then it became clear, these guests of ours were not welcome here and should be deported if they were to step onto Icelandic soil.
Now let's begin the disection of the hypocracy I mentioned at the beginning of this rant.
The main reason why this decision was made is because the
production and distribution of pornography is illegal in Iceland, however, it is not illegal where these individuals live that were coming to the Snowgathering. So I conclude that we were just assuming that they were going to do those things here in Iceland, therefore breaking our laws?
In Amsterdam it is legal to smoke weed, it is not in Iceland. Let's say people who do smoke weed come to Iceland from Amsterdam, would they be deported aswell? Would they not be allowed to come here because we can only assume that they would do it here in Iceland to? Are we really that shallow that we decide what people are likely to do here when they visit us? It was clearly stated that the guests at the Snowgathering were to follow national law and they agreed, as we all do, how could we then bypass that agreement and think they would rather break the rules than follow them?
The other leading factor in this decision was that "
we do not allow prostitution nor do we allow child-pornography". Now that's understandable. However I have no idea how we started to connect this event to either of those things. It's as if the feminasism stepped in here and made the statement about the connection and we blindly followed, as we saw our officials do.
Prostitution? Child-pornography? The oppurtunity of buying children on their website? This is all what our officials were saying in the media and that they do not stand for that. It's pretty obvious that I wouldn't stand for that either, but where can this be found on their site? I've been on their website, and nowhere can I see a business proposal to buy children, nor do I see the same for adults, therefore we can safely assume that these are words pulled out of one's ass. It wouldn't surprise me if it was from a feminasist here in Iceland.
To make one more point, Radison SAS hotel SAGA follows the common standarts of their hotel chain, they offer pay-per-view pornography in their hotel rooms. So in fact, they support the distribution and selling of pornography. However, they do not allow the producers of the same medium to stay at their hotel in the intent of having fun in Iceland. This is the epitome of all that's concidered as hypocracy.
Legal prosecution is inevitable in this case as they were discriminating a class of people that live honest lives in their home working at something that we think is illegal and therefore think they simply can't follow the rules set to them while staying in Iceland,
at all.Hope this helps in making your own decisions from now on, aimed at the stupid people.
